A. If f(x,y) =\frac{x^2-2xy+y^2}{x^2-y^2} then f(-x,-y)=?

Solution:
f(-x,-y)= \frac{(-x)^2-2(-x)(-y)+(-y)^2}{(-x)^2-(-y)^2}\newline or, \frac{x^2-2xy+y^2}{x^2-y^2}\newline or, \frac{x-y}{x+y}

B. A man spent ½ of his money and then lost ¼ of the remainder. He was left with Tk.3,600. How much did he start with?

Solution:
Assume he has x and he spent \frac{1}{2}\times x = \frac{x}{2}
Then after spent, remainder or remaining money= (x - \frac{x}{2}) = \frac{x}{2}
Now, 1/4 of remainder is \frac{1}{4}\times\frac{x}{2} = \frac{x}{8}
Thus, remainder after loss is \frac{x}{2}-\frac{x}{8} = \frac{3x}{8}

Thus, \frac{3x}{8} = 3600 . Which implies that x = 9600 . He was started with 5760.

C. In a class of 120 students numbered 1 to 120, all even numbered students opt for Physics, those whose numbers are divisible by 5 opt for Chemistry and those whose numbers are divisible by 7 opt for Math. How many opt for none of the three subjects?

Solution:
Total number of students: 120; number of even students is 60 & number of Odd students is 60.
Divisible by 5: 120/5=24. Here odd = 24/2 = 12 (half odd & half even).
Divisible by 7: 120/7=17 (only the integer value is applicable). Thus, the number of odd numbers is either 8 or 9 (half of 17). To check, multiply 17*7 = 119. Since the product is odd, the number of odd numbers is 9.
Divisible by both 7 and 5: 35,70,105. Here the number of odd numbers = 2.
Hence, Number of people who did not take any of the 3 classes=60-12-9+2=41
