এ যুগের অন্য নাম Psedo-classical period. এছাড়া এ যুগ The enlighten period নামেও পরিচিত। Classical literature বলতে প্রাচীন গ্রিক-রোমান সাহিত্যকে বোঝায়। এ যুগের লেখকরা প্রাচীন গ্রিক-রোমান সাহিত্যধারার অনুকরণে সাহিত্য রচনা করেছিলেন বলে একে Neoclassical Period যুগ বলা হয়। এ যুগকে ৩ ভাগ করা হয়েছে। যথা-

১৬৪৯ সালে রাজা প্রথম চার্লসকে হত্যার মধ্য দিয়ে ইংল্যান্ডে সাময়িকভাবে রাজতন্ত্র বিলুপ্ত হয়েছিল। ১৬৬০ সালে প্রথম চার্লসের পুত্র দ্বিতীয় চার্লস ইংল্যান্ডের সিংহাসনে আরোহনের দিয়ে রাজতন্ত্রের পুনরুত্থান (Restoration) হয়। এ যুগের খ্যাতিমান কবি John Dryden এর নামাণুসারে একে Age of Dryden-ও বলা হয়।
John Milton (1608-1674)
তিনি একজন কবি ও বুদ্ধিজীবী। তিনি ইংল্যান্ডের কমনওয়েলথের কাউন্সিল অফ স্টেটের অধীনে এবং পরে অলিভার ক্রমওয়েলের অধীনে সিভিল সার্ভেন্ট হিসাবে কাজ করেছেন। John Milton Epic Poet নামে খ্যাত। মাত্র ৮ বছর বয়স থেকে দৃষ্টিশক্তি হারাতে শুরু করেন। তার লেখায় এর প্রভাব পরেছে।
